What builds up on Kiama houses

Walk down any street in Kiama and you’ll see the same thing: the side of the house facing the sea is a little greyer, and the side in shade has a green tinge near the ground and under the eaves. Salt spray dries on the walls and windows as a thin film. Damp air feeds mildew and black mould, and the eaves gather cobwebs, insects and dust.

Is soft washing safe on render and paint?

Yes, that’s what it’s for. A cleaning solution does the work and the rinse is low pressure, so render, paint, weatherboards and window seals aren’t forced or chipped.

Will the mould come back?

Over time, on shady and damp walls, some growth returns. A proper soft wash kills what’s there rather than just knocking the surface off, so it usually takes much longer to come back than after a quick hose.

Do I need to be home?

Not for most outside washing. Noah needs access to a tap and the side gates, and windows and doors closed. You’ll get photos when it’s done if you’re away.

Can you wash a two-storey house?
